97 Jimmy smells of gas after filling up

Hi. When I fill up with gas, I smell gas inside my truck for at least like 30 minutes or so. I cannot figure out why this is.

My truck doesn't not have some fuel line leak since I have always done the same milage with a full tank since I had it.

I do know that my gas guage has problems. It works when full until about 1/2 tank and then it dances around randomly and is not precise anymore.

Any ideas on what can be wrong? My guess is that it is just fumes that are getting inside the truck coming from some crack in the metal compartment around the gas cap....

Re: 97 Jimmy smells of gas after filling up

I have this happen to me too on my 97.Do you fill it up even after the pump clicks off? I have a horrible habit of doing that.Anyways my point being sometimes if you over fill it the smell of gas will get inside of the cab..As for the fuel gauge..It is the fuel sending unit..Mine is toast too..I just learned to live with it..I know when the vehicle has to be filled up and I am sure you know when to fill up too.
