Re: Where can i get hitch
JC Whitney sells hitch receivers that bolt to the bottom of the bumper. They will fit without drilling if you have holes spaced 8"-9" apart.

Re: Where can i get hitch
If the 98 bumper is like the one on the 04 Tacoma the hitch listed on eBay isn't safe to pull a trailer when attached with the rwo screws they suggest.
As I recall they are only about 6mm in diameter and aren't adequate for a trailer load. Some early trucks had three holes in their bumpers and the hitches like JC Whitney sells could be fastened with two large bolts. If you don't want to drill you bumper it's best to get a hitch that mounts to the frame. I paid around $125 for a Resse hitch at Advance Auto. It's safe to use and no drilling is required. Don't buy the one size fits all hitch as it will may require some drilling and lots of assembly. Clifton |

The e-bay hitch is a LIGHT duty hitch only ... but,
If all you NEED is a light duty hitch it is not a bag thing. The holes in my 2001 bumper are for 14mm BOLTS (about the same size as the lug bolts) and the bumper is rated at 3500 pounds. Don't think it is unsafe but I also wouldn't pull a 20 foot trailer with it. Maybe a jetski or single motorcycle. Personally, I spent the extra money and got a nice frame mounted, tubular hitch that hides nicely behind the bumper. I just never liked the idea of using the bumper to pull something but that is me. Also got the hoppy wiring kit ... no cutting and easy to install. Everyone has different needs. |

Re: Where can i get hitch
The bolts under my bumper are around 10mm diameter, I said 6mm but that was a guess, I just looked and verifyed the size. The support bolts I got with the frame uses uses a 14 mm wrench but as I said the critical part, the bolt shank is less than 10mm. I still don't recommend using two bolts that small to tow any size trailer. As I said that's what I found on my 2004, other trucks may be different. I also have the Hoppy wiring kit.
