The Offspring

I rarely listen to the radio. It's ALWAYS CDs for me if given the choice. So my friend mentioned Offspring was coming out with a 'Greatest Hits' album soon, so I went and looked at their discography and couldn't believe it. I didn't even know they came out wiht a recent album, let alone greatest hits.

It's kind of depressing, really. I feel old. When one of my favorite bands that I've been listening to since I was 12 comes out with it's greatest hits.

Looking back now, I forgot how much I REALLY liked them.

-> Americana was the first CD I ever bought.

-> Gone Away is on my top five list of songs. (and if you knew how into music I am, you'd understand what an accomplishment that is)
When my girlfriend of X years passed away, this song really hit me.

-> I burned "Want you bad" 14 times on a CD for said above girlfriend for kicks because I said she was too good.

-> The Offspring are the only Band that I had every CD from. Conspiracy, Americana, Smash, Ignition, Ixnay, Self-Title... Most other artists I didn't even have ONE CD from. All of my stuff was burned.

Re: The Offspring

I might check it out. they were pretyy cool back in 1998. It been a good while since then but Sorry about the story and I guess the older a band get, the less some companies promote. Maybe you had a hard life then and didn't realize it.........you do have a awful funny life....

Re: The Offspring

I liked Americana a lot. I liked a few choice songs from Conspiracy. Albumwise,.I agree. But they've got some GREAT scattered songs on later albums, like "The Kid's Aren't Alright".

Re: The Offspring

Smash was the first ever album that changed my life.

Smash is the reason I started guitar.

I got Smash in laste 1997, I got Americana when it came out, and after that I aquired Ignition, and then Ixney.

I had conspiracy of one, didn't like it, and I hate splinter. I got their first album somewhere along the line.

When Americana came out, and Pretty fly was "the" song, I had taped it off the radio 20 times onto one tape (didn't have a burner) just so I didn't have to keep rewinding the song every time. I don't like the song no more, cause it's one of those "heard it a million times, literally" things.

But Offspring's "Smash" is to this day, one of my fav albums of all time.

Re: The Offspring

I remember the day in 1994 when I bought Smash. Every time I hear any song from it, it just takes me back and I remember everything that was going on in my life at that time. It's a very moving record for me.

In my top five for sure.

Re: The Offspring

I think i would actually listen to a Offspring Greatest Hits album. I'm not sure all their "hits" were chart toppers, but I'm sure all the songs on the disc will be good ones.

Re: The Offspring

Actually, I htink the "Greatest Hits" CD is original. Like Alien Ant Farm's "Anthology", released after they had only done one CD. Unless they have a song called "Cant Repeat" on another album. If anyone has heard this song yet, tell me what you think, becuase I think its pretty damned good. Hints of Ignition with a touch of Americana if you ask me....
