Angry 89' Bronco II Trans. fluid spraying out the back!

This is the second Bronco II I've had that did this. When driving over 45 mph it sprays a light mist of transmission fluid out the back all over the woindow. I had it fixed on my last truck once before and was told that it was the seals or something leaking. It got gradually worse as time went on so I had them replaced and then later, the whole transmission went.
Anyway, can anyone tell me exactly what these seals are called or where they're located? I can't remember from last time and I save my invoices from work but the mechanic didn't give me one for this particular job. I want to be able to go back to a new mechanic and tell them exactly what is wrong, what parts I need and get a quote on the job. Thanks!!

Have you checked the modulator valve on passenger side of transmission. Its hard to get to with the exhaust system in the way, but a few choice words and paitence will do the job. A new one goes for about $12 @most parts stores. The box will probably recommend changing about every 30,000 or 60,000 miles. Hope this helps.

Re: 89' Bronco II Trans. fluid spraying out the back!

I had the same problem on my 90 bII, trans fluid misting the rear of the vehicle. The problem with mine was the front seal, (behind the torque converter) it had been leaking for a while but I just lived with it, untill it finally blew out, cause taking the trans out isnt too fun, lol. hope this helps

Re: 89' Bronco II Trans. fluid spraying out the back!

Sometimes the seal between the transfer case and the transmission goes bad. This will allow the transmission to dump fluid into the transfer case, making it over full. Then the excess will make it's way out of the transfer case vent. The way to see if this is the problem is to check the transmission level to see if it is low, then pull the fill plug on the transfer case. If the tranny fluid has pushed fluid will flow out of the fill plug on the transfer case.

Cool Re: 89' Bronco II Trans. fluid spraying out the back!

If it were the vacuum modulator at fault trans fluid would not show up on the back glass, the fluid would be burned through the engine, smoke and such, I had the same problem and all the trans man could find was that one of the two trans line to the radatior was about two turns loose and when pressure built up by going over 45-50 the fluid would skeet out around the fitting.
A five minute fix, now there maybe some seal blown, but that is what was wrong with mine.
