94 f-150 fuel pump replacement
My son has a 94 f-150 with the straight 6. THe fuel pump in the forward tank is gone. I've heard of two ways to replace the fuel pump -
1. Take the body off 2. lower the tank. DOes anyone offer advise as to which is the better route to follow? I understand that taking the body off takes a little longer, but you don't have to fool with lowering the tank while on your back! Comments appreciated.

Once i changed the pump in a z71 took out bedliner cut a hole above opening where pump drops in tank. I know this sounds dumb but if you cut 3 sides fold it back get a piece of metal bigger than hole screw it down and caulk then bedliner job done. The metal part is of course after changing pump. If youd like to know more just ask it took about an hour total was easy. DAVE

I think the above is irrational, I gotta 91 F-150, I replaced my pump quite easily. The front tank is not that big, I think only 16 gal., how much gas is in it? If you dont wanna get on your back and soil your clothes from lying on the ground then your outta luck. Just unstrap the tank, drop it, unplug the harness, carefully pry off the retainer, swap out the pump and your done. You could hold the tank up while your son tightens it back up, or use 2 or 3 jackstands and a peice of plywood. If you take off the bed your're gonna need more than two people to get the bed off and back on carefully, and its much more work. This won't take long, and you don't have to ruin your bed by cuttting a hole in the top of it. It only seems logical to fix it the way it was intended to be fixed, not trust a caulked in sheetmetal patch. If you need further assistance refrence a Chiltons or Hanyes Manual to aid in the process.

You can remove the bed also. There are 6 or 8 bolts that hold it on. A couple of wiring connections, remove fuel filler neck and have help to slide it back to access the tank. It takes about an hour to replace this way. Your choice. Good luck.

Drove 6 years with the patch under bedliner never ever had a problem it is not the correct way just an easy suggestion. Kinda depends on the vehicle if u really dont care or if its your baby. Wouldnt do it to my 05 vette

No offense was intended, I was just extending my personal advice on what i thought to be right. I have found if I, personally, don't fix things correctly my attempts at afro-engineering and improvising seem to fail over prolonged periods of time.
Oh, and yea I wouldn't dare do that to my 06' Bentley I'd consider doin that to my Rolls-Royce though
