just to clarify, you are having this problem with 1 one of the outputs? Most cads or even onboard audio support at least 5.1 systems with 2 stereo ouputs for front and back plus another for center and sub. Which one of those ouputs is giving you trouble?

Anyway just some basic stuff, make sure the conections are good then go in volume control and make sure you have the balance slider in the middle.

Also in controll panell>sound and audio devices>speaker settings>advanced you can set the type of soudsytem you are using. Use this unless you have another proprietary controll system that came with your sound.

Updating the drivers might also help.

Re: comp audio. only 1 channel working

Start with the tweaks Neut. gave ya, could be as simple as that. Next, are the speakers and [presuming you have one, subwoofer] paralled wired to one plug only? Depending on th3 speakers, which you didn't give much info. about, most systems [speaker systems] start their connect off the subwoofer, which is usually separate-powered, and all in/output comes from the sub. connect to the audio in on your tower.

theyre just two desktop speakers with no subwoofer. they came with the Compaq mv540 monitor i am using and they have a power plug that plugs into the monitor. there is only one mini plug the goes into the computer(motherboard) which was working fine until recently. i havent switched anything around and all the volume controls are balanced in the middle. the right speaker picks up mechanical noise from my cd drive. kind of like a buzzing sound. but it doesnt play regular sound at all. the left speaker works fine.

The plug, dude, or give a quick shot of electronic spray cleaner into the tower connect. Power off, allow to dry, while plug/unplug, will open connects, hopefully. If not, the plug or its internal wiring. Plugs are flimsy, the wires break or short at times.
