mr2 Info

I am a newb here, and I tried the search a few times firts but it would not work so try not to get mad at my ignorance. I was just wondering what kind of swaps can you do in the sw20 series(NA or FI). And what are some good websites with parts for mr2's. Thanks-Jackson

Re: mr2 Info

well you can swap the turbo motor into an NA and the 1MZFE V-6 into the NA or Turbo. if your outside the US thats about it .....but if in the US you can also swap the Beams 3SGE into them. But as in any car swaps aren't easy and being the MR2 is a mid engine car doesn't help. your better off buying a turbo but thats just this guys opinion

Re: mr2 Info

So I couldn't just put a turbo kit on the NA motor with bigger injectors or something, or stronger internals?

Re: mr2 Info

you could ... i suppose but your better off buying a trubo..... The 3SGTE is a much better option that ripping down a 5SFE and building it up.... when you build a motor you'd better have a spare cause your looking at alot of down time... with a stock turbo you skip all of that

Re: mr2 Info

It's much cheaper buying a Turbo car right off the bat, but there's advantages of swapping a 3SGTE into a car that was originally an NA, generally there's a weight difference, the latter ending up a little lighter for some reason.

Also swaps can run into some $$$, it cost me over 1,250 just to bring my clip over from JP to the east coast, mostly because of warehousing fee's. I pretty much ripped the guy off on the clip so that made up for it, but in the end it cost over 3,000. Make sure you buy a quality clip, get one with as many usable parts as you can. My clip had very low mileage, but probably as a result of not only the average lifetime of cars over in JP is 30-50k miles, but the owner prematurely ending this short life expectancy being in an accident and ruined the driver's side wheel bearing, hub assembly and stabalizer bar. Try fixing minor accident damage and getting it inspected in JP - it will be a hoot with their strict standards. Anyway, I had to some brand new components and previous issues fixed, which attributed to the cost.

I now have a low mileage engine that is already otherwise bulletproof that runs 11's on the spray!

Re: Re: mr2 Info

Only something like 1000 beams motors were made, and thus have little to no aftermarket.

So even if you're lucky enough to find one... and have the $4000 to get it, you won't find parts for it too easily.

Now if you want power, go 3sgte. The 5sfe takes too much money.

Re: mr2 Info

if i was going beams i'd go black top Draz, where there IS aftermarket and there were a LOT more than 1000 made.

there were only 1000 red top single vvt MR2's.... don't know bout how many red top engines there were though...

Re: mr2 Info

the celicas got the red tops also but i think the power is lower not sure.... and yes the plack top is crazy.....bob norwood set a land speed record with a MR2 Gen 2 with a turbo'd 4AGE 20 Valve and de-stroked it to compete in the 1.5L class .....needless to say it went 205mph!!! in a mile run
