I was wondering, what are bumpstops?? Why would yo uwant to cut them, and what is their purpose?? Ive heard numerous threads dealing with them, but i dont have a clue as to what they are!

Bumpstops are part of the suspension assembly. They are small rubber bushings which keeps the car from crashing hard on the suspension components when the suspension is at maximum compression.

When you lower a car, you reduce the compression stroke of the suspension travel. Since our cars do not have much suspension travel to begin with, this is bad. One way to get some of the travel back is by trimming the bumpstop. You do not want to trim too much though - maybe about half of it. Also, if you look, you will see a solid rubber part of the bumpstop and an accordion part. trim part of the solid rubber part - not the accordion part.

If you want to see some pictures, go here:

look in the G20/AGX/GC folder. Pictures 1 and 2 shows the front stock suspension pieces next to the KYB AGX / GC coilovers. You can see the stock bumpstops as well as the aftermarket progressive rate bumpstops supplied by Ground Control.

I think I posted this pic before. But I'll post it here again.

Here is a pic of my a stock bumpstop (right) and my modified bumpstop (left). I wanted to retain that dust boot so I just cut out the middle doughnut with a knife and then glued them back together with some Automotive Goop. I also drilled some holes in them and zip tied the two ends together.

I have the TEIN suspension for the P11 and it really helped with the ride quality. However my understeer problem was still not totally cured. I really need a front camber correction kit.

i think your NA height might be just set too low. well, I haven't taken mine to the track like you, but even with the soft rate springs I got on the NA's I use the second from the bottom height. haven't had any understeer problems yet taking some fast corners (doesn't seem like I'm riding the bumpstops). oh yah, the soft rate springs raise the height about 3mm compared to the mediums that you got. the ride is still pretty darn low though.

My rims? Mine are Axis Racing Spec 17x7.5" rims. They are an exact copy of the BBS RSII wheel. Well, not exact - they look exactly like BBS RSII wheels, but are actually 1 piece wheels whereas the BBS rims are 3 piece.

I'm running second to the bottom setting too. You won't experience this terminal understear on the street. Unless you autocross or track race you'll never know. Right now I'm thinking a camber correction kit and rear roll bar would help a lot. Ultimatly a higher spring rate and linear spring would be the best. I'm going to wait and see how the B+G setup works for Dom (Dpro).

I C, yah, linear rate'll probably work better for you since you are at the track and autox with your G. how about those JIC's that luke got? any good for your application?

Considering my positive cash flow right now is 0 the application sucks!

I'm going to put up with it for a while. When the TEIN shocks finally go I'll sell off the S-tech springs and get something else. The JIC's sound a little to hardcore for this casual racer.

gforces- hahaha! yah, you got them wheels, dat's why right? how do you like them? probably feeling some good acceleration differences off the line, huh?

i did notice a slight full bump when I hit a dip on the expressway going about 70mph. I'm thinking about firming up the NA's another 2 clicks. it's fun with these NA's how the tighter you go the better the ride gets. well, up to a point.

What camber correction kit? I thought the P11 has the same basic set-up as the P10 up front. Right now I know of no camber correction kit for the car. I need one. I'm kind of motivated to come up with *something*.

Yeah you're probably right. I was just thinking how nice it would be to have one. If one was available, I'd have one!
