Problem after putting on intake

I bought a cheap intake for my 2000 Eclipse Gt off of ebay last week. Here it is
If you noticed that black plastic piece at the end, it seems to fit the Mass airflow sensor, but the tubing doesn't seem to fit the other end. Is it a bad thing if I just leave the sensor off?

I am also experiencing some chuging when I'm in 4th going about 35. I've only experienced this after I put on the intake....could it have something to do with the mass airflow sensor not being plugged in?

Since the MAFS deals with your ENGINE MANAGEMENT...you might need it on to run the car properly.haha

Re: Problem after putting on intake

your car is running pig rich without the MAS. i tried it once with an ebay intake.....not a good thing to do. put the stock intake back on, and buy an intake from AEM, Injen, or K&N

I went out and bought another blue fitting so I could put on the MAS. It doesn't chug anymore , I'm going to get the service engine soon light reset tomorrow. I'm also looking for an exhaust that will hang from the stock brackets.

I'm also wondering if my car is cali spec or not. That will determine which exhaust I get aswell. Could anyone tell me of a way to find this out?

Re: Problem after putting on intake

any exhaust that is made for the 3G will use the stock hangers.

what year is your car?

Re: Problem after putting on intake

doing a search would have helped you out....

How do I tell if I have Cali or Federal emissions?

There are two ways to do this.

On the GT, the easiest is to slide under the front of the car, near the passenger tire. Look up. If you see a big bulky rectangular thing with some pipes coming out of it, you've got Cali emissions. If don't, you've got fed emmissions.

The second way involves looking at some numbers and appears to be valid for 2000 model year Eclipses only. Pop the hood of the car. There is a sticker on the firewall behind the engine. It's behind the intake plenum, on the plenum's passenger side. On that sticker is a series of numbers and letters. If the 2nd to last number is a 9, you've got Cali emissions. If it's a 4, you've got a Fed spec car.

There may be a third way, though there hasn't been enough discussion to determine the accuracy of this method. Pop the hood and look along the fuel injector rail. If you see a wire bundle, you've got Cali emissions. If you don't, it's a Fedederal emissions vehicle.
