Who makes replacement shocks (besides Bilstein)?

Seems like Bilstein's shocks have been backordered forever. Every time I call they say it will be another month. Does anyone know of some good replacement shocks? To my knowledge Rancho and Edlebrok do not make replacements for the TB.

Rancho does make replacement shocks for Trailblazers. The p/n's are: RSX17512 for the front and RSX17081 or RSX17082 for the rear. Also, Bilstein is losing their Trailblazer business to Tenneco (Monroe & Rancho brands) when their contract runs out. Expect to see zero stockouts in the future for SPO shocks.

Under what circumstance would one replace their shocks?

There are several:
1 - During regular service, you notice oil leakage from the seal or worn mounts.
2 - You notice handling degradations such as excessive body roll or too much bounce after hitting a bump or pot hole.
3 - You hear a squeak or rattling noise from your shock(s).

Most OE automotive shocks are warranted for 36,000 miles. Generally speaking, once you hit 50,000 miles, it doesn't hurt to start looking into replacements.

Many service centers have a checklist they go through to evaluate the ride and handling of your vehicle. Monroe gives away their checklist to their service centers. You can download it at www.safety-triangle.com/inspection.

In replying to your question about Rancho shocks, I forgot to mention Monroe Reflex and Sensa-Track shocks. Reflex were specifically designed for SUV's to reduce body roll. I had a full set on my ol' Blazer (before I upgraded), and the ride was better than it was when the truck was new.

Try KYB shocks, I put a set on a older Blazer S10 and I couldn't believe the difference. They worked very well, until I sold it, with over 100K on it. A lot cheaper than Bilstein's....
