Re: Cd player rejects disc and displays check cd

well how old is the car might help a bit, because many people have had problems with the stereo system, I actually bought my car, but when test driving it I didnt think to have a cd with me so I never tesed it, once I tried to put a cd in, it wouldnt even take it, so I had them replace the stereo, so unfortunatly, that might be the route you may have to go.

I have had this problem with a couple of Delco CD players and fixed both of them. The most likely cause is a dirty CD lens. The lens cleaner discs don't work. You will have to take the radio out and apart. If you have a security code programmed, make sure you know what it is or clear it out before you remove the radio. With the radio removed, take off the top cover and find where the CD player is located. It is a rectangular metal box. There may be a circuit board that must be removed to get to the CD player. Be carefull of the ribbon cable connectors as they can be torn and ruined. Small wire connectors can be carefully disconnected. You don't have to completely remove components, just move them out of the way. You will have to remove the CD player to get to the cover. When you have the lens exposed, clean it with a cotton swab and 70% isoproply alcohol. Put it back together in reverse order and try it out. If this doesn't work, the laser bulb may be burnt out and you will need a new radio. Good luck!

Aloha!

I just bought a 2005 Impala and got the same problem with my CD player. Mine also plays intermittently and makes noises when it does work but scratches the CD and destroys it. Luckily my car is still under warranty so hopefully they'll fix it.

Re: Cd player rejects disc and displays check cd

I had the exact same problem with my 2000 Impala. I would play it in the extreme cold temperatures then suddenly it didn't work.

I did try a CD lens cleaner, but in order for it to clean the lens you had to get to track 2. When the Impala is spitting the cd out, it won't allow you to get to track 2. I just had to place it back in 7-10 times before it worked.

I have just tested it afterwards, and it looks like it should work now. I'll make sure to update this if I experience any further issues (just for other people who are looking for an answer to this, just like I was).
