need help with racing
If anyone has experience racing sunfires, can you help me out? I am just getting into autocrossing, and hope someone can be like a guide to me. I am completely new to this car, and sport, and don't know how to set up the car for best performance. I live in the southern ontario/mississauga area. Any help would be great, or i'll just figure out everything on my own.
As far as i can see, the sunfire GT handles very well in stock form already, and has enough power. What are the top most crucial mods to make it perform bettter? I mean to drop the lap times significantly. I just want some feedback, so i do not spend lota money on mods that don't make a diffference. |

Re: need help with racing
Front and rear strut tower braces, sub frame braces, bigger sway bars, coil overs, 17" rims work well, weight reduction (remove the interior to your liking), a roll cage will stiffen up the car nicely. BRAKES!!! get the biggest brakes on the market. (www.j-body.org)
The Gt uses the same suspension as the regular Sunfire. We don't even have rear sway bars. We just have bigger/wider/stiffer rims/tires. I'm planning on the whole shebang, since I can run over 130mph now. the brakes get a bit warm under braking, and turning becomes an issue over 90mph. I am working on finding a couple of other tranny's to swap gears out of to make my top end higer while keeping the acceleration up as well. the isuzu tranny was made for many cars in many different ratios, finding the right combo is the key.
