Question Can a cammed 305 be dangerous?

I just love the way that sounds "cammed" sounds better than turbo'd or supercharged. Just wondering how to go about getting a cam. I read in some article where they used a cam on a 305 and got like 50 something hp out of it, considering the stock cams are garbage. Also which exact vortec heads do you suggest for the 305?

Re: Can a cammed 305 be dangerous?

I'm looking for the same thing for my 383 stroker but so far i havent found anything promissing. a 305 cammed would be pretty good for killing ricers but if u want to kill a american car with real power then you'll need to switch to a bigger engine and lighten your car. Mainly for killing ppl you want to push alot of torque for off the line starts. Hp really isnt going to do much unless your looking for a long race.

Kpot, i WILL do that shit aswell. I really love my 305, and i'm only really looking for about 300 ponies anyway, i'd satisfied with that. He also gave a link to a stroker kit (335) which bump horses up a great notch aswell, i wanna have a sleeper, everytime i tell someone i got a 305, they just laugh, but in a year or two im gonna be the one that laughing. I will start this project slowly but surely.

Re: Can a cammed 305 be dangerous?

the castings you want from vortec heads end in 062, the 908 castings have pressed in cast iron valve seats that have to be removed and require alot more machine work which equils $. as for a cam, you can run any cam you like. For a hydrolic roller cam which your block is equipped with, i personally like the comp cams xtreme energy line. but thats my personal opinion.

Not in a 85 TPI, 25 horse that disappeared in the 86 & up when the lift was cut down.

Re: Can a cammed 305 be dangerous?

i have a lot of respect for 3rd gens especially irocs, because #1 they are a classic bodystyle and #2 because my buddy had a black one just like Link85x's back in around 1997 with red leather interior and a 305 automatic, and that is what turned me on to camaros

that's to use a carb. link, stick w/ ur tpi, if u want a cam i have a stock lt1 cam that i can sell ya (PM me for info). like geno said, i've heard of people using lt1 cams on their 305s... i've seen some tpi intake manifolds that are meant to be used w/ vortec heads. get a high-flow intake manifold, vortec heads, lt1 cam, bigger throttle body, possibly an injector upgrade, and a custom tune. w/ somethin like that u won't even recognize ur car the engine will have waken up soooo much.

Thats what i plan to do, in the mean time i'll buy all the goodies i need and start a rebuild on it during the winter, when the car is out of comission. I was also thinking about this stroker kit aswell http://shop.enginekits.com/osb/itemdetails.cfm?ID=341 , which i think will give a hell of a boost in performance, along with all the other things you mentioned, i'll be well over 300 horses with the 305, almost making 1hp per cu. in. I just the love my 305, i don't know why, but i absolutely love it! It still and 8, one of the weaker ones, but still a respectable 8.
