Question on 3800 series engine

What is the difference in the 3800 & the 3800 2 series?

and do they require the same octane rating?

the series 2 contains about 205 horsepower(no supercharged) and the series 1(3800) contains approx 165 horsepower. as the series 2 engine rolled off the lines, they obviously came with emisssions improvements as well as cheaper material. as far as power goes, i have a buick with a series 1 and a buick with a series 2 and it seems as if the series 1 has a bit more power, but that maybe just my imagination. They are however both very comparable and indeed the one of the most solid engine's GM has ever built.

hope this helps.

Re: Question on 3800 series engine

Series 1 had actually 176hp series 2 had 200(later updated to 205)

Series 1 had 225lb.ft of torque, series II had 210 lb ft of torque(not sure on the series 2)

The series 1 feels a bit peppier to me, but they're both terrific engines.

Run 87 in both, no worries.
