What size v8?
Ok, ive been doing alot of catching up on forums. Ive also been contemplating on investing on a bigger engine over trying to make my v6 faster.... But still.. not sure what to do.
If I stay with my v6 I want to get Headers, CAI or Ram Air, then supercharge it or something.... but then again my engine has 107k miles on it. What do you guys think? But if I got with the v8 what kind should I go with? I think in the long run I am going for Best performance.. as most people do.. Any suggestions here?

Lt1s the way to go since you'll need to rebuild your V6 soon and are going to spend almost the same amount of money.

Re: What size v8?
damn all that, i did the rebuild on a 3800, and its pretty damn fast, total rebuild with spray, forged internals nice but not fast enough. after u drop all the money in your car to make it handle a v8 its not smart to put a lt1 in it. maybe a 3rd gen but not a 4th. your car is 200hp bone stock to maybe 250 or 260. for as much as u pay for that swap all u are getting is 60 extra horses? hell u can get more than that spraying your car for 800 bucks complete nos set up, that can be added on to and so on. not practicle at all. now i myself am doing the ls1 swap now, well worth the money. after im done ill have over 300 hp for the fact that im building the ls1 before i drop it in, so if everything goes well before next years f body gathering ill be looking at a minimum of 600hp. for even 7 grand thats bad ass and worth the money, youll be paying about the same thing for a lt1 swap and you'll be lingering around 260hp. everyone in here has their pick when it comes to engines, some are die hard lt1 some ls1, even us 6 guys love what we have, but when it comes to gains for your dollar any person who builds engines will tell u the lt1 swap isnt the way to go. yes the lt1 will be cheaper but after u buy what u need to get it to run what a stock ls1 does then spend what u need to get it to run what im trying to run you'll be spending more money than i will.

Re: What size v8?
LT1 is from 93-97 and is 350ci. The LS1 is from 98-02 and is 346ci. Both 5.7L, both V8

Re: What size v8?
now if your talking 7 big ones to do the swap then yes i agree that is too much for that just build your v6 and spray the pants off of it and push it to its absolute limits until it blows up and you have to do it all over again.
philly you say the v6 is 200 hp, well the lt1 is 275 hp not 260. and all you need to keep up with an ls1 stock is to get rid of the factory airbox and buy a muffler. WORD. take that from experience im sure you can shop around and find a lt1/t56 for less that 7 grand. hell you can buy a damn 94 camaro z28 with 100,000 miles on it for 4-5K, and you aint even gotta do shit to it. take the money you get from selling you v6 and put it in the z28 and build your motor then, forged internals, heads cams lifters pistons pushers hoes pimps all that shit, aint no sprayed 6 gonna touch that. |

Re: What size v8?
the difference between the LT1 and the LS1 is kinda like the difference between the sailing ship enterprize and the nuclear powered aircraft carrier enterprize. they may both be the same animal, but the LS1 is light years ahead of the LT1 in regard to technology and design. There are many who disagree with me (Formula will probly pop up in three.... two.... one....) but i say the LS1 is a far better engine. Just my personal opinion. If you are gonna drop the dime, id say spend the extra cash and put an LS1 under your hood.

Re: What size v8?
he's talking about doing a swap, after he pays for a new rear end,k memeber, engine, tranny, wire harness, and every other little odd and end like a new radiator, fuel pump da da da....hell hes almost over 7 grand. and yes if he was to buy a crate lt1 im sure he would get all 275hp but im sure hes talking used and i doubt youll find a used lt1 that still has 275 in here, hell he dont have 200hp in his v6 its more like 170 by now im sure. but like i said if hes gonna spend all that money on a swap for the hp to dollar its smarter to do the ls1 swap. who in their right mind will pay over 5 grand for a lt1 swap? at least in a 4th gen. and im sure he dosent want to sell his car and buy and buy a lt1 car not to down lt1 cars but he'll be doing better building his own lt1 from the bottom up instead of buying one that is used and most likely on its last leg. and bottom line i dont care what any of u say a mechanic who works on all camaros will tell u, they leak oil....yours may not.... but the rest of the worlds do. every now and then i get a lt1 guy to agree but most will be like mines dont, well u got a good one out of the batch, thats the first thing a truthful person who works on those cars will tell u, the ghost leak! the closer to 97,000 miles the more of the risk, it happens. the ls1 is the way to go.
