Stereo problem..

I had my system installed a little over a week ago. I had a 15" Audiobahn 1506T rated at 1300rms..(I know audiobahn isnt the way to go) and a Concept amp that is rated around 1000rms. The system hit HARD for a week, and the other day I was driving home talking on the phone...the volume turned down to 5..and heard a loud popping sound, and then I caught that wonderful smell of burnt wiring or some sort. I checked, and 1 of the 3 30amp fuses was blown. I changed the fuse and checked all wiring..everything was good. When I turned on the stereo, there was no sound from the sub, only a VERY quiet hum. The amp has power, but I myself believe that it is fried..I called the Audio place and they said I had probably blown my sub but I think otherwise. Any thoughts?

Sounds like you have burnt the coils in the sub but u should have the amp also checked out to make sure the channels are fine,and should have warranty.take back to the stereo shop.

What would cause the burnt coils?

The amp probably blew your sub somehow. Only thing I can think of is the sub is overrated and the amp put too much power through. Why it only blew one fuse doesnt make sense. Was your inline fuse from the battery just fine? If it was, there shouldnt have been a big power surge and you probably got a bad sub.

Yea, my inline was fine. I even put in the backup just in case..and if I did blow it something would be seriously wrong since im using a 100amp inline. I thought it was wierd also that only one fuse blew..they say that when a sub is blown you can tell because you cant push it in or something, I'm not really sure but I know something went completely wrong.

If the sub is blown...the thing will still stink. I know when mine were in the box even, they were bad. The minute I took out the one that hadnt started on fire...my car started smelling better. So, if the amp is blown, it would have only stunk for a little bit. If the sub is...it will make your trunk smell like hell.

you guys are to funny.... The stink test on subs to determine if they are blown. LOL Just find the specs for it and get a multimeter. If you fried a voice coil in the sub, the impedence of it will be a lot less than whatever the spec of it is. Usually 4 ohms per each voice, correct? If it has significantly less impedence than the spec, and you continue to run it, you will fry your amp most defenatly.

Let's say the amp is fried, not the sub..would it still be lit up showing that it is on?

yeah, sometimes they do that. Does it have a protect light? If not, yeah, it could be fried even though it powers up fine. Take that multimeter I told you to buy again, and set it to measure Volts AC, and touch the leads to the amps + and - outputs for the subs. Turn it on, crank up the stereo, you can unhook the subs if you'ld like, and you should get some sort of voltage through there. Maybe what? 5Volts? I donno, depends on watts RMS of the amp. There's a formula for this. Someone help him out. But yeah, anyone who is big into car audio should defenatly have a multimeter, and be familiar with using it for various things. Defenatly look into buying one even if its a cheap wall-mart one.

Yea, it has a protect light but it isn't on. I called teh audio shop and they told me to run by there sometime and they'd put a multi on it, but I just don't have the time lately to drive the 45 minutes to get it checked out. I'm hooking the amp to a different sub setup tomorrow just to see whether it is the sub or amp..just to know for now what the problem is. Thanks again to everyone helping me.
