Re: try this tranny problem

[quote=Vr6jettaRH]i own a jetta Vr6 5 speed manual

I have a pretty major malfunction with my 1997 mk3 Jetta. I have always had a problem with shifting to 2nd... I believe the synchros might have been at fault... but I always drove it and just devoted extra attention to shifting to 2nd. Then one day I shifted into said gear and the car wouldnt move. Not only would it not engage 2nd, but apparently I now have totally distorted the transmission. Now, where reverse was is now first, where 1st 3rd and 5th were is now all 3rd....and 2nd is engaged by pushing down as if going in reverse, but pulled down. 4th is the only gear in its original spot. So the image in my mind of this problem is that the whole gearbox has shifted left...and that 3rd and 5th have changed into just 3rd. Has anyone ever heard of anything like this happening...gears changing places...If so, what could be the problem...or what could need to be replaced...
