My 2002 S type (50k miles) transmission is very slow to engage when moving from any gear to Drive. The car shifts great and runs fine, but I bought it used off lease (no warrenty) and I've noticed it takes several seconds for the transmission to transition to Drive.
I guess I'll head to the dealer, but thought I would see if anyone has seen this. |

i have the same problem. when you went to the dealer, what did they say? if they were able to fix it how much did it cost and what did they do?

Re: Transmission slow to engage Drive
It's running great, so I haven't made a trip to the dealer a priority yet. I will let you know when I do.

Mine does that too. It's not on my list of priorities right now though, so I can't take the time to deal with it. Car runs fine, so I'll just bear it.

Re: Transmission slow to engage Drive
Just FYI.... Read on another forum that a nummber of owners were having the same issue. Several people wrote that this was normal for this transmissoin and to learn to live with it.
It was also mentioned in a posting that the owners manual refers to this this and tells owners that they will need to 'pause' between gears for a moment. |

go to the dealer and get the pcm reflashed. It is a simple fix but only the dealer can do it. This will "help" the issue it will not totally rectify it.

Re: Transmission slow to engage Drive
happened to my 2000 s type. my mechanic said that he will change the valve body (XR819250) and gave me a bill of $400 and some change. the car engages now without a delay. hope this helps.

Re: Transmission slow to engage Drive
Transmission slow to engage from PARK to DRIVE, REVERSE. Higher mileage car, worn...usually it IS the valve body which I have done to clear up fault codes relating to shift solenoids....But some times the trnsmission has broken internal parts and the trans MUST be replaced.

Re: Transmission slow to engage Drive
My 2000 S type does the same thing, and if you park on a hill or slightly push on a curb and set it in park you might have to drag it away from the curb or pull it uphill to get it out of park. Just fyi the cost to replace the pin and cables at the dealer $2500. The manual should read pause and have tea between park and drive!
