radio going crazy in 97 ram 1500

radio workes fine at times, but most of the time the lights on radio gets bright and flashes all kinds of numbers.Volume cant be controlled , it gets as loud as it can with the volume turned all the way down,and I cant change stations either. Can someone please help? I know it must be some kind of short but where?

It could be a short, or a voltage problem.

I've heard of similar odd things happening when somebody had a corroded positive battery cable, so I'd check there first.
