Noises...

I have two weird noises from my 95 escort. The first is kind of like a chirping noise. It usually only happens when my car runs warm (usually only when the temp gauge reaches the T in temp). It's very loud sometimes too.
The second is after I stop, I'll start to accelerate again, and the second i let any of the gas, something kinda like clicks once.
Anyone know anything for either of these two? Thanks!

The chirping is most likely the accessory belt... pretty cheap and easy to replace.

As for the click... try and give me an idea of what direction it seems to come from. Is it very loud, barely audible? Inside the car, outside the car? Left side, right side? When it clicks is there any noticeable change in engine performance?

Regarding the chirping noise, if it is happening when the car is running at higher temperatures, it could be the radiator cooling fan. If the innards of the electric fan are corroded or parts are showing their age, it may be the culprit for your chirp noise. I once had an electric fan shear the drive shaft from the motor for the fan, and when it would spin the fan, the noises sometimes sounded like grinding, but sometimes sounded like chirping. I'd check that out once the car is hot.

The clicking sound letting of the gas may just be the pedal, or the spring within the pedal if you're removing your foot completely. Is the sound coming from the pedal area?

The clicking only happens occasionally. it seems to sound like it's coming from the right side and in front. It sounds like it's from outside the car.

While sitting at idle turn on your air conditioner and listen to it. As it turns itself on and off you will hear a clicking sound... is it the same clicking sound that you were describing, or something different?

It's different, almost sounds like its my brakes or even my door.
BTW-with the chirping noise, it stops as soon as I put on the brake. Is that common for the accessory belt?

OK silly question here... but it might help...
Would you describe the sound as more of a "click" or a "clunk"?

As for the chirping... if you haven't changed the belt in the last 10,000 miles or so, replace it anyway. It is likely due. Even if it doesn't get rid of the chirp it might save you from being broke down on the highway... and it is cheap and easy to do yourself.

However... if the click really is more of a clunk :P Well.. maybe we can look at other things.

I guess with no tools it may not be so easy to change the belt... but if you know anyone with a few common tools you could still do it yourself. I doubt a service shop would charge much for this though. The belt will cost $20-30 if you get it yourself... they may charge as much as $45 if you let them get it for you. Service charge would be anywhere from $40-60 for the 20 minutes it will take to change it.

As for the noise... if you agree that it is more of a clunk when you step on the gas or let off of it... there are a few possibilities. Your axles (CV joints) could be worn out. You indicated that the sound was coming from a particular side, so you would know where to start. You could also have loose engine mounts... but this is unlikely unless you have had engine work done. There are also possible issues with your differential... but if it was coming from there you would probably be afraid to drive the car... At this point I would suspect that your axles may need some attention.
