escort A/c

Ok...when my escort is idling, the compresser turns off, then the cold air turns into hot air. Only when you are going at a good speed, does the cold air come back. Does anyone know why?

Make sure your cooling fans are working. If there is no air moving through the condensor the air will get hot as the AC system can no longer cool. Common problem!

Easy to check too... when you turn on your A/C your high speed fan should come on along with it.

Don't rush to replace the fan though... there are some relays in the circuit too.

Do you know where those circuits are located on a 1995 escort?

Re: escort A/c

Yes I do.
First check to see if your fan does or does not come on. With the engine running turn on the A/C and LOOK at the fan. It should be on. When you turn the A/C off the fan should turn off after 20 seconds or so.

If it does not come on, use a jumper wire to connect the fan directly to the battery. If it runs, your fan is good.

There is a fan relay switch in the engine compartment fuse box that you can check out.

Also, beneath the air cleaner in the fender well you will find a high speed and low speed relay switch.

The computer is also in the circuit... but not likely the problem.

The fan is also connected to the engine coolant sensor, but since this is an A/C issue we can probably bypass that.

Does the car overheat at all, or run hotter than usual?

The car doesnt seem to run hot, but here is my newest problem. The blower isn't coming on at all. When going at a good speed, you can feel the cool air at the vent, but it is not blowing. And it does still have the same problem, where if you are sitting still, there is no cool air, just hot. It's been so hot lately, that I haven't had a chance to check the circuits or relays yet. Do you think that those are the problems?

On my Escort when you are pushing in the clutch pedal it turns off the compressor. So if stopped with clutch in it will start warming up. I shift to neutral at red lights.
