Question turbo question

im looking at a 95 tsi awd and the guy says that it has a new engine and a turbo from a gen 1. my question is why a gen 1 turbo? is it more efficent or is it bigger or what becuae its confusing me. also he said that it doesnt have a boost control so if i rev it to high the turbo will keep spooling and blow something. how correct is that?

The 2g turbo is a T25, or more commonly referred to as a T-toosmall.

The 1g turbo is a 14b MHI turbo which is larger than the T25 and considered a great upgrade for the 2g.

As far as the turbo blowing up, the guy is an idiot. Unless the wastegate of the turbo is welded shut, you will not blow up the car. The MBC is only used to RAISE the boost on the turbo.
