Tranny & Idle

2001 Grand AM 2.4 Litre engine.

What is happening is the Track Off light on the dash comes on, and cannot be shut off by the dash switch. It resets it self when the car is turned off and sometimes comes on when driving.

When this happens (intermittently) the transmission slams into gear and the idle speed in gear drops to 600.

Since this has started to happen the high speed idle is about 1800 and low speed idle is about 1000.

Had the car to a transmission shop and all seems to be fine. Was tested with a code reader and no codes for engine or transmission were found and fluid level was correct.

The only thing changed was a new set of Champion spark plugs was installed.

Any ideas?

the answer

good news, I took my car to the shop, and I was having the rough shifting and high idle speed, and they told me that my throttle position sensor was bad, or acting up. so for about 150 dollars they replaced the part, and my car seems to be running fine. they also told me it wasn't a bad idea to get my tranny fluid flushed. good luck guys and let me know if it works out for you.
