1995 Viscous coupling.

Any one got instructions or pictures on changing VC in NP249 transfer case? Also anyone changed for NP 242 and how does it work off road and in snow?

Re: 1995 Viscous coupling.

There are a few messages here about the procedure. I'm waiting for mine to arrive later this week, and I'll likely take some photos of the procedure.

See this thread http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbul...d.php?t=417286 where dksob81 offers to send pics. Thery're great and really help show how it's done.

Apparently it's possible to do it without dropping the TC, but it looks like quite a trick. Mine has a leak now as well, so I'll be dropping mine to do the job.

As for the 242, it's been discussed as well, a search should turn up some info for you.

Re: 1995 Viscous coupling.

Thanks - did see some general stuff and EMailed dksob81 to see if I could get pictures but no answer as yet. Did not see in depth about 242, just wondered how good the full time selection is on that transfer case, if it is a differential it is no use to me as has same problem as axle open differential, ie slips when you don't want it to.

Re: 1995 Viscous coupling.

Thanks for trying don'y know why there is a problem you could try my work email [email protected], also just in case my email address is wrong [email protected]. Thanks a lot for your perseverence. I am still 50/50 about new VC or 242 swap, I like 249 case it got me out of scrapes so will probably stick with it. Pity the VC doesn't last longer. saw advert for gear replacement somewhere?

Since I was a loser, and didn't take photos like I promised, I'll volunteer to host dksob81s pictures, let me know if that's ok.
