99 suburban Radio Problem

Ok factory am/fm cassete remote cd player, at first the radio sound would just quit, radio was on and would seek and hold channels this was in all modes am/fm cassete and cd.Then it progressed to Coming on whenever it wanted in the garage in the parking lot for no reason. Then it started this cutting in and out sometimes off for a min sometimes days. Now it wont come on at all So I purchase another radio that worked and nothing it seeks and holds but no sound out of any speaker not even static!! Any Ideas??
Glenn

Greetings, I had a similar problem which was caused by the amp for the rear speakers going bad. Try disconnecting the tin box looking amp under the dash and see if that makes any difference. Good luck, Randy

I have a 99 Suburban and had the same problem. The dealer put in three new radios and the problem ended up being a broken wire on one of the rear speakers. I don't know why it prevented the sound from coming out, but once they fixed that, everything works great.

Re: 99 suburban Radio Problem

I found the driver side rear speaker has a frayed copper wire that runs from the speaker connection to the speaker’s paper cone. The frayed ends were touching the speaker frame and shorting out. I trimmed off the wires and it seems to be ok so far. For more info use the search under suburban and type radio sound in. Dave

Re: 99 suburban Radio Problem

My short was at the rear speakers over the back doors one of the screws had vibrated loose and happened to stick to the magnet touching one of the wires. Had all the same symptons.
