I own a 2001 Chevy 2500 4x4 pickup. When I go to start it by just putting in the key and starting it right up, the ABS and Break warning lights stay on 9 times out of 10 and never go out. If I put the key in, turn it to the on poistion and wait until the ABS warning light goes out, then start the truck. they go out and stay out. Any ideas on what makes it do this? Thanks!

Haha! Mine too. It's done it for approximately 2.5 years or so. Had it in the shop numerous times and had it checked out by my honest mechanic. He's run the computer, checked everything, and nothings wrong. Don't really know what the problem is, so i just deal with it. It does get kind of annoying when people get in and say hey what are those lights on for?.

Was the chassis ground for the ABS unit checked? The ground wire has a bad habit of corroding up and I have even found it disconnected.
The factory forgot to ground a few of these units. The ground is located close to the left front body mount (below the drivers feet), on the frame and is a wire breakout of the wiring harness. This bad ground may check good with an ohmeter but will cause several phantom problems and fault codes. |

Re: ABS and BreaK Warning Lights Stay On!
OK I found the ground wires in question on the frame, took them off, cleaned the frame, put them back on using a star washer under them and still have the same trouble with the lights... Any other ideas??

OK I bought a Hypertech programer, reprogramed my computer for some high performance updates and ever sence that the light has never come on again. Must have been a glitch in the computer!
