Need Help Camaro Running Like Crap

Well I have had my camaro on the road like 2 weeks now then all of the sudden yesterday when i got in it to leave it sounds like its running ok but soon as I put it into gear it starts idleing really rough, and when i try to drive the tach is jumping all over the place, and when i am on the gas it starts backfiring. while this is happening the tachs jumping all over and its to the point where its about to quit

replaced: wires cap and rotor

oh, its a 1992 rs with the 5.0 tbi

may be an ignition control module.

however i suggets you run the car for error codes, this should give you the best lead to solve the problem than any guess work we could offer.

yeah... i fixed it, still not suyre what it was, just tapped up a bunch of wires that I could see that were loose

Check all your wiring to your engine and your electrical housing for anything that may be loose for the tach screwing up but for the backfiring you should replace sparkplugs and see how it acts after that, your spark plugs may be too small so the firing would be off.

wow, shity car day today, i thought I had it fixed and i go to get some gas, well on the way there, all of the gauges start going all over the place and the service engine soon light keeps flashing on and off, so right as I pull into the 7-11 it quits, and when i try to restart it the started wont even click on at all

so yeah..... kinda shity day for me

Yeah it does sound like your ignition control module, if you DID get a new one then make sure the cap is on correctly because if you put it on incorrectly the gauges will jump and your maro will sound like its puttering, atleast mine did, RPMs were going crazy.

what gauges were acting up? the only gauge that should be affected by the distributer is the tach. if a bunch were irratic you probably have a problem with a ground

the speedo and the tach were both jumping all over, well i got out my test light and there is no power to the purple wire on the starter when the key is on and off ,and when the key is turned on 1 dash light is on even when the light switch is not on, but its dark and i dont feel like working on it anymore, i hate electrical problems so god awful bad

shorted wire harness, 100% sure. go back to where you saw those wires that you tapped on that fixed it. and inspect that bunch of wires very carfully one at a time, ill almost guarantee that youll find one where the insulation was rubbed off and its shorting either among each other, or to ground, causing those problems.

on a side note i got a new hood, i only paid 185 for it, supposedly one side was flared out a little by where u bolt it on but i didnt notice anything and it went on without any problems

looks like its hung a little of to the right but thats sweet, i wanna get a 4 inch cowl hood but i dont have the money, i just love the cowl hoods, always have , always will. do you have a jeep cause i think your dors to it are leaning against the garage in that pic, lol that awesome. my aunt wouldnt let me take her jeeps doors off.

where did you get that hood from? did they have to ship it to you?... cause I need one just like it. 2.25" cowl right?

cheapest i have found is $199 from a company in Cali, but they need $250 for shipping and they build to order so it takes 6 weeks to get it.

thats where i got it from, just keep checking there are 82-92 camaro hoods on there off and on but usually at least every other week. mostly they sell damaged goodmark stuff, it was an hour drive from my house so i didnt have to pay for shiping.

pretty good day today though i got some black tape and taped up all the wires and got them looking really good, well as i am doing this i see a ground wire just laying there so i tighten that up and the camaro fires right up

oh yeah, i need help setting the timing to i know its supposed to be set at 0 degrees but i cant find the wire i am supposed to disconnect

I want a cowl too, probably a 3 or 4. That cowl hood looks awesome on your maro btw. somehow breathers dont look good on third gens.
