Anyone sell their art?

Does anyone sell anything they draw/render? If so how much do you sell for. Where/who do you sell it to?

Re: Anyone sell their art?

I'd like to but I don't know who would buy my shit...

Maybe you could ask at a restaurant or a bar or at the gas station... they should pin it to the wall and they get a third of the money... well. don't know.

Re: Anyone sell their art?

Yeah I'm not really sure who'd buy my art. So far I sold one picture to my cousin only cause he asked me to draw his car. I guess maybe I could attend car shows and ask if people want their cars drawn.

my idea is that if you post something on this forum, or on a personal site, to sell, and you begin at a low level, you will be regarded as cheap. and your work will be seen as "cheap." and, therefore, not desirable.

with artwork, you should not set a price too low, or high. so if you offer to sell a drawing for $5, you will come off as a desperate wannabe student.

if you offer work at $5000, and you have no reputation or name for yourself, and if the work is not of very good quality, you will come off as a criminal.

so the artist in this society is pretty much screwed.

Re: Anyone sell their art?

were i you, i would throw out a price and see what kinds of responses happen. and if you make prints of the drawing, you can sell the same drawing again and again and again.

you sell the original, you have blown your wad.

Re: Anyone sell their art?

If I were to sell, I'd ask for $25-$75 depending on what I'm drawing. I'm not looking to make a living, just a few extra bucks if possible.

Re: Anyone sell their art?

why not make a living at it? drawing is more fun than working at a bank or some office.

Re: Anyone sell their art?

yep. see that.

i encourage everyone here who likes to draw to see a day when you can say "take this job and shove it," and work for yourself drawing or painting.

the money will come if you really apply yourself. you have to be hungry for it. falling into a real job is like going to hell and dying. even if it makes good money.

artists often have more power than they give themselves credit for: too many artists act needy and desperate for money. and this makes them powerless. it is also bullshit that computers are going to replace artwork by hand. pens have not replaced pencils. bikes have not replaced cars. tomatoes have not replaced lettuce. it's all just one big happy dysfunctional family.

there is so much fear and bullshit out there keeping poets and artists down. oh well --social darwinism. the meek shall inherit the gutter.

Not sure I could support my life style with my artwork. but for 2-3 months out of the year I make a handsome wage. $600 extra a week sometimes more. not bad.

Re: Anyone sell their art?

Please don't take this the wrong way, but you probably have it easier selling your art not just because you draw well, but because you are an attractive female. I'm sure it's much easier to approach someone and tell them you can draw their vehicle for $200. The rest of us would probably be declined, at least at that price unless we are damn good and our clientel have the money.
