2000 Wrangler Sport...Won't start

I have a 2000 Wrangler sport 6cyl. After about a 45 minute drive, through a few mudholes and a small creek, I turned off my jeep when I got back home. About 15 minutes later I got in it to leave again and it wouldn't start. The engine wouldn't turn over at all, like the starter had gone out. We tried jumping the starter and it would whine, but wouldn't engage. We let it sit for about 5 hours and when we tried it one last time it started up just fine. Could I have gotten something wet, like a computer or something that would cause it to do this? Has anyone else had anything like this to happen?

Automatic or manual?

That is odd, could be; something got wet then its dry now. Water could have gotten in your air filter, causing it to not start, happened to me once, in my other truck. Also if you got water in the auto tranny, it would shift bad.

Crack open the hood, check for loose connections.

Thats all I got, I am no pro

Has it been ok since then? I'd think that if the solenoid in the starter was wet, then it wouldn't move to engage with the flywheel.

waterproof your starter

It has happened to me, you got water in your starter. Mine happened in the winter, so it froze completely. After mine dried out it still occasionally gave me problems(once a week). I pulled it off, cleaned it out and RTV'd it, no problems since. Easy fix, I learned how to tear down a starter that day.
