95 Astro not starting

Hello, i'm new here (obviously). But i have a 95 astro van that is not starting. I have done a lil research here and there but haven't seen exactly my problem. The van does turn over but doesn't start, the lights and horn are working, all tho the horn is rather week. The dash gauges do work everything turns on. I did check (sorta) the wires behind the battery. I didn't remove the battery all the way and i only disconnected a few connections and didn't find any that were melted. Someone did mention to me to spray something into the air intake to see if it ran and if it did it could be the fuel pump i have yet to do that. Has anyone here had/have the same problem and have fixed it or helped someone fix it point me in the right direction. Thanks for the help.

Robert

It all comes down to the basics. Take the doghouse cover off the engine. Check for spark while cranking it over by taking a wire off and inserting a spark checking device or anything that will carry the current, and holding the plug wire about a quarter of an inch away from it. If the spark jumps, you've got spark. Next, take the cap off the schrader valve that is on one of the fuel lines. Have a rag to put over it as you press the valve in with the engine off. The line pressure is somewhere in the neighborhood of 60psi, so it should come shooting out. If it doesn't, hold the valve open, and just turn the key to on, without starting the engine. The pump energizes for several seconds and then shuts off, so fuel should shoot out of the valve. Be careful though. Next step, if you don't have fuel flowing is to check the relay for the fuel pump. Have a helper turn the key to on, and you should be able to hear it click. You can even put your finger on it to feel for it. If it doesn't click, that could be the culprit. You also have a low oil pressure switch that cuts out the fuel pump if it doesn't register fuel pressure. Make sure it's working properly. Hope this helps.
