Rims effect on perfomance/drive quality

Gonna be switching my stock bravada rims for a set of 20" wires....The wires come with Yokohama tires. I was just wondering if ride quality will be any different, or there will be any changes in the performance of the SUV.

As a general rule, going to a lower aspect ratio (and going larger in wheel diameter, but maintaining the overall diameter is going lower in aspect ratio) will degrade the ride, but improve handling. Usually going to this level also includes and upgrade to a higher speed rating and that also wil degrade the ride and improve the handling.

Improving the handling can make the vehicle a little more prone to tipover, especially on an SUV.

Hope this helps.

Re: Rims effect on perfomance/drive quality

What do you mean by "higher speed rating"?
So, the new rims will make me more likely to tip over? Will I still be safe, seeing as how Im a fairly cautious driver, and dont take corners at 40 etc....

Speed ratings: Read this:

http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tirete...currentpage=33

Will you be safe?: The problem with tipover is not how you drive. The problem is when an emergency situation develops and you make a sudden manuever, physics takes over and you're just a passenger.

Hope this helps.

Re: Rims effect on perfomance/drive quality

basically you will Look like a ''big balla-shot kalla'' JK JK well, the rim size will increase and the tire thickness will decrease. thats where you have the different speed ratings and all that. Usually 20'' will have a Z rating- it can maintain higher speeds without ''blowing up'' speeds like 140mph+ . If you noticed the GT touring cars have like 20's on them. they go fast and z speed rating are the only tires that can hande the speed. so you get better high speed performance and better grip but you'll lose low RPM horse power. but that isnt the main concern. and yeah you'll lose ride comfort. but hey YOULL look TIGHT rolling on DUBS yo! Geed UP
