seat belt problem

Hello folks my first post here.I did a search on seat belts with no luck.I just bought a 2000 Silverado and I am having a problem with the front passenger side seat belt. The belt locks up and you can't move forward. Is there any way to fix this? The belt goes into the seat and looks like a pain to fix.

Re: seat belt problem

I Had The Same Problem With My 2000 And Called Gm Directly. They Sent Me To A Dealership And They Changed It Out. It Was So Bad That My Passengers Would Not Wear There Seatbelt.

Re: seat belt problem

Have you checked to see if the belt/seat assembly is a recall item?

I did a quick internet search for a recall, but non for the seat belt.Ya no one will wear the belt.

Hey rustcal do you have the number that you called? Will they still have it fixed even though I'm not the original owner? In my state it's illegal to ride without a seatbelt(Click it or ticket).

Re: seat belt problem

there is a recall for the 99 silverados. I looked up the number on the internet, i believe it is on gm's web site. most all states you have to wear seatbelts now, federal law i think. the recall i believe is for belt seperation in an accident. when i called gm i told them what was happening and they said they would change it. when i got to the dealership the tech said that was normal and my seatbelt was ok, i said look gm said that you were to replace my belt so just do it. the only way to release the belt was to either take it off or recline the seat all the way back. sorry i don't have the number but just call gm customer service hotline.

Re: seat belt problem

Still having the same problem. The dealer ordered a new belt and had in installed by his mechanic and now it is doing the same thing. When you put on the belt and reach down like you are picking something up off the floor and sit back, you can't lean forward again because the belt locks up and the only way is to unlatch it. Could there be some sort of child seat adjustment. On the belt it say's
Quote:
When installing a child seat pull belt out all the way and put seat back all the way.
Why would a brand new seat belt act this way. The dealer is like 40 minutes away and is a pain to drop the truck off for service. What's up with this belt? The drivers side works fine,I can lean forward and back all day.(BTW) I did call GM and they would not help me because the truck was bought used and 5 years old.

Re: seat belt problem

every seat belt does that.....just depends on how far down one would lean, and how big they are...once the belt gets pulled out past a certain point, it locks out and will ONLY go back in.....so you can lock in child seats, etc...

Re: seat belt problem

Any sudden movements cause my belt to lock. It seems a little more sensitive in this vehicle than it did in any of my previous vehicles, but the belt is supposed to lock with sudden movement (i.e. collision)

Re: seat belt problem

It seams to be working alright. You would think they would give you enough to reach to the floor. I don't have kids, but why would I put a baby in the front seat when I have a back seat??
