Hello,
I see alot of guys on here are pretty sharp...I have a question. I have a 92 Chevy P/U w/5.7, the engine is freshly rebuilt: has a whipple charger on it: All plugs are firing (I used a timing lite to check them), the injectors are misting fuel, I have double checked and re checked the firing order. I had the TPS (Throttle position sensor) and the MAP sensor checked, and both checked out good. I am at wits end and really could use some help any and all tips will be greatly appreciated. Re: TBI problems Please help
Sounds like the distributer is 180 deg. off. Who rebuilt it? Timing chain and sprockets are marked differently than they used to be for top dead center dots. Both dots will be at top of gears when top dead center is set. Used to be bottom gear had dot at top and top gear had dot at bottom when engine was at top dead center. Anyway if the gears were set for top dead center the old way you will be 180 deg. off.

Re: tbi problems!!!
I really appreciate you guys giving feedback.....it was the distributor not working properly......I actually had a brand new one in there ...put the one from the old engine in it and it fired right back up!!!
But I would like to find out why when I was turning it over, had the timing light on plug wire #1 and it was flashing on the mark......now this was with the dist. that did not work. Just wondered if anyone had some input on this......it is a brand new billet dist. and I shouldn't have had problems!! Regards Alex |

Re: TBI problems Please help
Just because it flashes doen't mean the spark was strong enough to ignite the gas.

Re: TBI problems Please help
Bentbar, you were probably 180 degrees off with the original distributor. The timing mark on the balancer aligns twice for each 4 stroke cycle of the no 1 cylinder. Once on the compression stroke and once on the exhaust stroke. In the future, to make sure your on the compression stroke before dropping in the distributor, pull the number 1 spark plug and hold your thumb in the hole. Have someone bump the starter slowly. When your thumb blows from the hole, that's the compression stroke. Turn the engine backwards or forwards by hand as needed to fine adjust the timing mark and install the distributor.
