Newb lookin at replacing speakers

I'm lookin at gettin new speakers for my car. I was lookin at Sony Xplodes to replace my 6x9s and 5 1/4s, n just that, not lookin at subs or anything yet. Would i have to get an amp for these speakers since im just replacing the stock ones? Any other ideas on brands would be appreciated, id prefer red speakers to match the color of my car, but that doesnt mean i won't buy another color.

No the speakers should work just fine with the setup you already have. You should however get better sound quality from the new speakers.

Thanks GTPDad, i obviously know very little about cars n audio, so that was a big help. Just wondering, about how much could i expect to pay to get them installed, since i dont trust myself with the work?

Or, if i do decide to try to do it myself, could i use the existing speaker wires and how difficult would it be?

The cost depends on the shop. I really can't say what the labor rate is for installation due to no experience in this area. The rear speakers are not hard to change and the existing speaker wire should work. The hardest part is getting the grills off and back on. The way GM puts these things on takes a degree in audio engineering to figure them out. Maybe someone on the forum has had better luck with removal than I have.

K, thanx again. It looks like me n my dad are gonna try to replace the speakers when we get some free time. One last question tho, i noticed most people who replace their speakers w/o amps get 2 or 3-way speakers, and the only Xplods i could find in town were 4-way speakers (for both the 6x9s and 5 1/4). will this be a problem due to a lack of power goin to that powerful of a speaker?

No! The 4 way speakers shouldn't be a problem. If you find you want more power then a small amp will not be a problem to install either.
