Re: lsd

Limited Slip Differential. Basically it helps put power to both wheels (instead of just 1). If one wheel is slipping (say on ice or water), it will put all the power to the wheel that has more traction available. It helps you get grip when you launch the car, and grip the road better when when you turn a corner. That's basically it, but there are all different types of LSD's and they will work differently from each other (basically doing the same thing).

An lsd will help you get power distributed more evenly between the drive wheels. It is very beneficial for autocross, road race, street/strip cars. Basically under normal driving conditions you wont notice it, but if you go hard into a corner your car will accelerate better and be more predictable. Both wheels will have power to help you dive through the corner with more power. If you have and open differential(no lsd) the outside wheel will try to pull you through the turn and the inside wheel will probably just spin, taking up precious power. LSD's are good for helping in turns, but if your goal is to build a drag car there are other options too. You can use lockers(there are many different type) They make both wheels spin at the same speed all the time. This provides more stable performance in a strait line. Most of the time these are used on muscle cars. But back tou your question LSD's are worth it if you can get a tranny with one stock (mostly on jdm trannys) but aftermarket ones are expensive, and i personally wouldnt buy a new one unless i had big money. Hope this helped.
