Lightbulb Security Systems...

This is the problem, about 3 months ago someone stole the driving lights off of my car, this didn't really piss me off too much (they were only 50$). But they scratched a big O in my rear glass on the driver's side rear door, and broke the weather stripping above the drivers window (a 45$ part and the rear glass is like 75$ plus tinting and installation), there are also pick marks on the drivers door glass from where they tried to break the window (presumably with a crow bar since all the picks come in sets of two that are evenly spaced). This happened in the first wave of car break-ins that happened in my community. The vandals and theives are on a second set of break-ins. One of my friends who owns a custom S-10 saw someone doing there homework the other night on his truck. So, I need serious security right now. I haven't really shopped for any security systems yet but Crutchfield has some really good ones for less than 200$ which is my max for the system (not including installation). My requirements are motion detection, dual stage shock sensor, and the ability to retain keyless entry and trunk access.

Any Suggestions?

Oh yeah, and I think the little punks were trying to steal my muffler too, the bars that go in the rubber mounts were out of the rubber mounts.

A dual stage shock sensor has just what it is. It has two stages; First stage is basically passive, if the car is lightly bumped the system just sounds a single warning (something like whooooooooop), the second stage sets off the alarm (this is like a big shock [someone trying to break a window] it would be like whooooooop beep beep beep beep whooooooop beep beep beep.

Sorry, but for $200 I really dont think you'll get much more than loud annoying siren and some remotes.

If you spend a little more you can get a good base security system.

$350 to $500 is the ballpark for alarms with good features. I like the Viper's because they have a huge amount of programmable options. The Compustar's are good too.

Please note that some of the most important features for your alarm (whether they come with it or you can add them on) are kill switches. If you have a manual transmission look for more than just an ignition kill switch. Manual transmissions can be push started and will leave a theif laughing at your ignition kill switch. Get a combo of ignition, fuel line, starter kill switches for the best protection.

But remember ANY car can be stolen by someone that knows what they're doing.

Also.. do not get a remote starter installed. They make your car SO much easier to steal.

Thumbs up

try:

Auto Toys . . .

I bought a Crimestopper CS 2005 from them . . . it has everything that you requested, plus the remote doubles as a pager with a LCD status screen . . .

It won't just let them know they're phuq'n with the wrong ride . . . it'll let you know that they're doing it!

It cost me approx $200 with the optional starter kill relay . . .

Look at some of the avital pieces going on ebay they are nice stuff... Basically its all install... you can get the equipment cheap but if you don' t know how to do it RIGHT you'll have to pay someone too.... An alarm itself done by the average joe installer (circuit or best buy), sorry worked there :-O will be easily taken as well...... DEI is nice and so is the Ungo stuff...... I'd stray from the motion sensor - I haven't seen one yet I'd trust - if your alarm falses all the time no one will care when it goes off...... Spend the money on an alarm pager perhaps.... Because if someone sees the flashing light and STILL tries to break in then they may know what they are doing..... And very little can stop them then.....

Well, I'm getting an alarm installed on Tuesday with Mercury switches on the hood and trunk, dual zone microwave motion detection, dual stage shock sensor. I have this thing that goes on the clutch and locks it in the up position (you might have seen this in Automotive Products Showcase on Speed Vision), I only use this in bad neigborhoods. I personally don't care if someone steals the car, I just care if the stuff in it gets stolen. And besides a loud siren is enough to deter almost all theives.

The securty system was manufactured by TRC (the right connections). It is the CS-18 4B 7 channel alarm. I had it installed by Linear Sounds. It is wired to cut the fuel pump power supply in the event of a trigger. Although the car could still be started it wouldn't run for long. It includes 2 remotes, siren, brain unit, fuel pump cut off, starter disable, interior motion radar (actually it is sensitivity adjustable and can be set so sensitive that if you walk by the car the alarm will go off), dual stage shock sensor. The alarm was 130$, radar sensor 40$, trunk pop relay 10$, installation 75$. This came to a total of 267.75$ this includes state tax at 5%. When I went out for dinner it got set off and some how the factory alarm got triggered too and I couldn't start the car. I left the factory key fob at home (30 minutes away) and couldn't disarm the factory system. So I had to unplug the accesory power cable from the battery and go home and get the key fob to disarm the factory alarm. (I tried putting the key in the ignition and turning the car to the on position, it wouldn't disarm). Luckily I met someone and had a ride home and back to the restraunt.

I was just going to say that this alarm you picked sucks. I am sorry. I tried to sell these with very poor results. I finally just went back to DEI. YOU SHOULD NEVER HAVE AN ALARM HOOKED UP TO YOUR FUEL PUMP! There is too much room for problems. You should have opted just for the basic starterkill. I would much rather have a failed starter driving down the highway vs. a fuelpump. I bet your radar sensor is not 2 stage either like DEI has. That's going to be anoying. You could have gotten a 2-way remote for what you paid for this system.

Really am sorry I didn't see your post eariler
