Drove great for a year. Now having problem with what I think is a no fire as motor is running. Have RPM gain but feels like there is a big drag then RPM drop to normal and feels like more power. All this at driving at a steady pace have replaced plugs ran great this am for about 20 highway miles. Then started the dead fire again. Didn’t seem to matter if the eng. was cold or hot. Would run fine for a few miles then start acting up again.

BTW: No noticeable mechanical noise Have changed plug wires.
Kind of acts as if plug wire were missing or have fell off then runs smooth.

What happens when parked if you manually rev the engine? Is it sluggish as if there is a vacuum leak?
Are you certain it is not a transmission issue?

when reving with no load sometimes there is a miss-fire
but not like a pre or retarted miss-fire

yes I'm sure as it is a manual trans.

Re: 89 1.9

When you replaced the plugs did you also replace the wires? Perhaps your distributor needs some maintenance. The contacts may be worn. If that doesn't lead anywhere, maybe try a compression check.

found the problem it was a bad connection on the pos side of the coil
that caused a dead-fire (no fire)at times.
thanks for the help.
