Odd Brake problem

Hey all,
My front disc(s) tend to drag a bit (enough to be audible) when I turn the wheel. This is on my '85 Civic Hatch 1.5L. I'm thinking the brakes lines are getting screwy, but somehow turning the wheel causes the caliper to close? Anybody seen anything like this?
TIA

Re: Odd Brake problem

If it only happens when you turn then it's probably your wheel bearings. The caliper is attached to the knuckle and the rotor is atached to the hub/bearing/wheel. As you turn the car you are causing stress on worn bearing, shifting it enough to cause the rotor to rub harder on the caliper.

If you can hear them drag all the time then it's time for new calipers, since they're probably full of crud and don't want to retract. Since there is only a few milimeters of clearance between the pad and rotor, a sticky rotor may also cause noises when you turn, but most likely it will make noise all the time.

Re: Odd Brake problem

When you mention wheel bearings, are you referring to the outer CV bearings? I'm looking at the exploded view of the knuckle, drive axle and I don't see any kind of bearing that's pressed into the knuckle. Is this something missed in the manuals?

Re: Odd Brake problem

OK, I found it. It is pressed into the knuckle. From what I'm reading, the knuckle needs to be pulled in order to press/pull the old one out. Sounds like a shop only thing once you get the knuckle off. Thank you for your help. Anything to add to the job is greatly appreciated.
