check guage and oil and battery guages don't work

I recently bought a 92 v6 thunderbird lx and there were a few problem with it. The oil and batter guages don't work and the check guage light is always on Except once in a while the light goes off and the guages start working for a couple of seconds. I don't know what it could be. Can it be a short or fuses or the computer, I don't know what it could be? any help would be great.
