quick question about oil change intervals

hey everyone one i had a quick question for ya, i just bought an 04 Alero 2.2 with 14,000 miles on it and it has 19,000 miles on it now and the change oil light hasn come on yet. I was reading in the owners manual abou the oil change intervals and they said somethign about how on the GM's they have something called an Oil life maintance or something like that. I just sold my Jeep and know nothing about Gm products. i was just wondering if i should take it down and get it serviced or not, thank you and look forward to hearing back from you.

The GM Oil Life System is deceptive. Its based on engines revs and engine temperature. Since you have run up about 5K miles since you got it, I would highly recommend getting the oil and filter changed as soon as possible. Be sure to reset the system so the change oil light doesn't come on throwing you off. Even if it does it easy to reset. Good luck!

No problem and you're welcome. Reset as follows:

Ignition key to on
Press RESET button located at driver's side fuse block
When change oil light flashes, press and hold RESET button again
Reset is complete when you hear the chimes
Change oil light will go out
