This would be greatly appreciated. Can anyone explain to me in a detailed step by step, how to change lifters in my 95 s-10 blazer(W) Thank you.

How do you know if you need lifters ?

What motor ? How Many miles ? What are the conditions of the motor ?

Tell us more how you concluded you need to change the lifters, so that someone can help with alternatives...

I'd suggest you spend the $20-bucks and get yourself a Chilton or Haynes service manual, but basically;

1) you remove the lower intake manifold
2) remove the valve pushrods and valve rocker arms.
3) remove the valve lifter pushrod guide and the bolts.
4) remove the valve lifters from the engine block
5) I think you need a tool like J-3049 to remove the stuck lifters

Another alternative is to subscribe to alldatadiy.com and it will tell you step-by-step....

But before we go further give us some background and I am sure someone can help you on next steps etc.....

It has 134,000 on it, i took it to a mechanic because it was ticking, the car runs out fine but they said i had to replace the lifters but they wanted way tomuch to do it. So i'm gonna try to attempt it myself. Do you know of any web sites that offer a manual on how to do this?

Er, before you go buck wild, try this:

My Blazer had a lifter tick when I brought it home. Here's what I did to "cure" it.

1)Drain your oil filter and put it back into place to make room for a pint of Mystery Oil.

2)Drive for about 1000 miles on this mix. Don't baby it, or romp down on the gas, just drive it. Make sure that you at least once a week take a good, lazy highway drive to let the engine and oil warm up to proper operating temperatures so the Mystery Oil circulates into everything.

3)Change your oil. If you can, get a good synthetic. I "flushed" and cleaned mine over 5000 miles using Shell Rotella-T synthetic 10w-30. (Can be had for $12/gallon at Wallyworld, and yes, though it's a heavy duty or "Diesel Oil" - it actually runs this engine very nicely.) Pick up a *real * AC-Delco PF51 filter by Champoin labs. (Looking down through the center, you should see stamped steel, not nylon bands - those E-core type filters of a later design have my stomach churning) Or at worse, pick up a NAPA Gold filter or a Wix. Both are excellent.

When the 5000 mile run on Rotella-T is done, drain and refill, spinning on a new filter too and again, fill-er-up with good synthetic carrying an SL, or SM API endorsement on it. Run for 5-7K miles and repeat.

If your lifters do not quiet down by the end of three oil changes as described, the last two running on a quality synthetic, you may replace lifters *at your option*. I say that because, well - I have not heard a single GM made Blazer engine that was completley silent. Counter-balance shaft pushrod type engines will always generate a bit of valvetrain noise and run well past 250,000 miles in that state. I have resolved the tick completely doing this. Now I just hear the faint clattery-rattle that is just, well the nature of the beast.

All you probably need is an engine flush!

Mine was doing the same thing (130000 mi) and an engine flush fixed it right up.

I used gunk engine flush.

change oil and filter(cheap stuff-both oil and filter-) and add gunk. Run it for double the time it says to(i did it and all is well). Then change oil again with good oil and filter.

You don't need to change lifters at 134,000 unless they were damaged for some odd reason.

What oil and filter are you using?

i had my lifters and push rods replaced a year ago due to my brother over driving while over heating. i have had a pretty loud tap ever since i left that shop. i even brought it back to them and told them to fix it. they made it a little more quiet, but it is still there ad noticable. that shop was about 3 hours away from my house, but since then i brought it to my mechanic where i live and he said that he doenst know if there was anything that he could do. he mentioned that he could try to re torque the valves to see if that would help but it was a long shot. what do you blazer gurus think??

I have a 97 blazer 4x4 2 door with a 4.3l v6 200k on it. I had a lifter ticking sound coming from the engine turns out to be the wrist pins for the pistons.
