HELP I took my van to 2 dealers because there was a loud whistling noise when I went over 15mph. They said the only solution was to remove my roof rack. Which did stop the noise. Why pay to have it when I can't use it. Has anyone had the same problem?

I would check your window cranks and verify that the windows are sealing completely. If the audible acoustic sound you hear is the air currents crossing over the roof rack, they should get worst at higher speeds until the frictional drag becomes so great that the sound pressure passes over the audible frequecy range (20K hz) and the drag increase even more. Your gas milage should (mpg) should plumet under this condition. Those racks are adjustible, try positioning both bars together in the far back section of the roof rack track. See if the sound pressure, frequency or speed threshold change under these new conditions. If they do, your mechanic is correct.

Hi, Dunno what the dealers talking about. My '98 never whistled. Try moving the cross bars all the way to the back. Mine are not to the back and are quiteGood luck! |
