Re: heater core??

Your heater core is indeed bad. On the Bonneville it will take about 3 hours to replace the core. The newer cars are equipped with a drain to allow any coolant leaking into the heater box to drain to the outside. The hose is visible on the firewall. That is why your carpet remains dry. I would find a Chiltons or Haynes manual for the car to show you how to replace the heater core.

Re: heater core??

I'm not real certain but I think you can just remove the lower part of the heater ducting to get the core out. I do not believe the entire dash needs to be removed.
