rear drum brakes
I have a 90 Accord Ex....i repalced the rear drum brakes and after alot of cussing and yelling. I finally got on the drum however the wheel will not turn. i have tried to start the engine and pump the brakes but they hardly move....what is the proper procedure to back off the shoes so they are not up against the drum??

check your hardware kit, and wheel cylinder. the wheel cylinder may be stuck. you might need a new one, but they dont cost much. also chek the adjuster which is behind the drum, you have to adjust this with a flat head. good luck

Re: rear drum brakes
Now that you pushed the brake far enough to push the rubber cups out of the wheel cylinder, I suggest you buy a cylinder hone and a wheel repair kit and a Chiltons Manual and rebuild the wheel cylinder. The adjuster is a star wheel which is activated by a lever which rotates the wheel when you put the emergency brake.

Re: rear drum brakes
Well i just bought a full already assemblied wheel cylinder...however even after I put it on and installed the new shoes, the drum still would fit on....so I had to put back on the new shoes.....b/c I need the car tomorrow.
I am wondering of O'Reillys sold me the wrong size shoes..... Any one else had this problem??? |
