rear dics brakes

once again another issue. i was doing the rear brakes on my 93 lumina. they are dics brakes. now the issue is as follows: i can remove bolt that holds the caliper to the housing, i can compress the piston, but the slider will not budge a bit. when i say slider i am referring to the slot that the bolt goes into, yet at the same time there is a cylinder in this area that you can slide back and forth. when reinstaling the caliper, you have to press these sliders all the way back other wise the rotor will be lopsided. i was told that i can use a torch to try and loosen it but the slider has rubber at both ends. any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. if i have to replace the caliper it self, what is the easiest way to do so. ps - if i dohave to replace the caliper, would i have to bleed the brakes afterwards, i have never bled the brakse on this car and im scared if i do try to do so i will break the bleeder valve and then i'll have a whole nother problem. thank you all.

Re: rear dics brakes

just buy a brand new loaded caliper. It comes with everything already installed. All you have to do is hook up the brake line, and bolt it on. Then bleed of course. But bleeding new calipers is very very easy because the bleeder screw is new, and wont break off. Just remember, dont over tighten.

Re: rear dics brakes

I Have Another Question, Should I Just Replace Both Calipers On The Rear? Is This Kinda Like When You Replace 1 Strut, You Should Just Replace The Other For Good Measure. Does This Senario Apply To Replacing The Calipers? Thank You All For Your Help.

Also Are Calipers From The Salvage Yard Ok To Use, Or Should Just Go Brand New?

Re: rear dics brakes

this particular caliper I would buy new because the rears lock up easy so you don't know what your getting at the salvage yard

the pads should be replaced in sets, but you don't necessarily need to replace both calipers. whatever you do, don't get those calipers at the salvage yard. get them either new or re-man.
