Can This Be True?
I was speaking to a friens who has done some minor mods to his friends spec v, and he told me that he put a cold air intake, highflow muffler and feul pressure regulator on his V, and gained 12hp on the dyno. I know from my honda days that cold air intakes witht the proper exhaust and fuel made 13 hp on the dyno, but im new to nissan, and dont know if this guy is blowing smoke up my A$$.
Let me know what you think.

I also heard of someone else gaining right around that much horsepower in a Spec with just a cold air intake....

Well nissan has been known for doing things like this, The Spec V was originally supose to be 180 hp, now its 175. I read somewhere awhile back that it was for regulations or something but simple modifacations was done to the intake to lower the HP.. therefore if we were to reverse what was done to the intake we would get back what was taken away...
![]() my .02 cents.....

but when i read in Sports Compact Car the spec V was rated at 142 hp at the wheels or something ????? isnt that a BIG loss in hp from engine to drivetrain ? and why would nissan advertise something as high as 175 or 180 if the engine was really rated on dynos at 142

Well, the 175 horses is to the crank. I was reading Grassroots Motorsports (another mag w/our cars on the cover) and they dyno'd the car at 138 horses at the wheels. There are usually big differences between crank hp and wheel hp.
