motor build ups

I was thinking about getting a new engine for my 86 monte ss, i was thinkin of either building up a 350 and making it a 355 or 383, or i was toying around with the idea of just building up my little 305 HO, if i were to build up the 305 and went all out with it how much do you think these little things could make? could they keep up with some of the bigger guys? or do you think i should just get a 350? any opinions would be great

Re: motor build ups

cuz he would then bust his tranny, or axle, or twist his frame...not fun. but, you can dump all the money and get a decent 350 horsepower for lets say, about 2500 bucks, or you can drop 2400 and get a 330hp 350...your call?!?!?!?!

Re: motor build ups

I've got a little 305 in my 81, and it seems to be plenty of power for me! Sometimes it's not necessarily the size of block you use, it's the parts you add to it to reduce heat & friction that can make the difference. Because Monte's are pretty heavy cars to begin with, you may want to keep a small block. If you go with a 305, I recommend an aluminum intake (b/c it's light) and either a Holley or Edelbrock carb. I've got those and tho I haven't updated in a while, they still work great!

Re: motor build ups

anyone know what intake i need for my 305? i still might just get the 350 ho. apparently, with headers and a bigger carb, that 330 horse engine puts out 377!! no mods!! but throught mufflers and full exhaust, it made 348. not bad at all!!!
