turn signals

hii have a 95 grand am and my tunr signals do not work the bulbs are fine the fuses are fine. my hazards work just fine but the turn signals do not. if u use them then the brake light on the side u have turned on does not work since normally the tuern signal is blinking on that light. any ideas to what this could be

Since everything else you described is fine, I would guess the switch or relay is bad.

The switch is in the steering column, with the headlight switch and no the steering wheel does not have to come off, the flasher unit is under the dash on the drivers side in a unit with the hazzard flasher and the door chime.
