special exhaust question

alot of v6 trucks i see, such as s10's/rangers/tacomas, have some kind of exhaust setup where it sounds pretty deep. they drive by and i dont see an exhaust tip or any kind of tubing coming out of the back, or the sides, what is it? maybe a glasspack? i have a v6 silverado and i want an exhaust like that. thanks for any help.

Re: special exhaust question

Drill a couple holes in your muffler...

If you're trying to get a V6 to sound like a V8 it's not gonna happen. They people you've seen probably have turn-downs or dumps. Usually about 7" in lenght. I have them and prefer them b/c I hate exhaust tips sticking out on trucks. Never have liked them and never will.

Re: special exhaust question

"special exhaust" lol. i love "special exhausts", ive made a hobby out of creating them. if u wanna spend money u can go wit a flowmaster, but its easy to go to advance or autozone and buy a thrush or cherry bomb turbo muffler for $20 bucks, cut the exhaust system off, and clamp it on. instant "deep tone". i had a buick regal GS wit a 2.8 V6 and cut off everything from in front of the cat backwards. i bolted a thrush on it, ran a 45* bend and a side pipe just behind the door and it sounded cool as hell. the best exhausts r illegal lol.

unbolt stock exhaust, hacksaw or sawzall off the pipe entering the stock muffler (so you have the bolt flange and like 15" of piping still), buy/make a coupler 2.75 to 3", weld on single in single out 3" flowmaster muffler, weld 10" long 3" dia piping after muffler (helps resonating tones)

This setup is relativly cheap, still legal and makes it sound like a v8

This is what i did for my truck, a little loud at 3000-5400 rpm but at cruising rpm 1500-2500 sounds really nice

A little loud in cab also since not much sound insolating between muffler and floor.

ill make a sound clip of my truck tomorrow if i remember too

Re: special exhaust question

If you still get the resonating in the cab lift the seats and carpet and install a new layer of "insulation/sound deadner." Find an exhaust that is meant to have the sound at certain rpm ranges otherwise you will be trying to make yourself deaf.....

Its not that loud, just loud enough to hear its nice tone, if the radio's on you cant hear it since the tones are low, you can only hear it since the exhaust ends so close to the cab, I mean usually people looking for a v8 sound from a v6 could really care less if they can hear it inside there cab or not, If the piping out of the muffler was ran back to the bumper it would hardly be heard, I only ran my 10" from the muffler for 1. gives it the right ammount of resonating space leaving exhaust 2. I like the sound, I got a 6000watt stereo system in my truck too, so most the time the exhaust wont be heard either way
