Couple questions: 2000 LS V6

Hi everyone,
I have a 2000 LS and have owned it for 2 yrs. After I just replaced the motor at 80k there are some other problems I have some questions about.

1. I have the same problem of a 4-5 sec hesitation when cold putting it into drive or reverse. That bothers me a little bit but I just let it run for 20 seconds and its fine.

2. Another issue is a "rapping" sound coming from the torque converter area. It is extremely loud when going through drive thru's and when cars are next to you. It drives me nuts! Cold the noise be the solenoid? If so where is it located and how easy is it to change?

3. Last thing....I read a few posts on the springs that should be used on the pads when you put new ones in. I just bought some from Autozone and put them on without the springs. The front end bangs loudly over bumps and makes awful noises when going down the road. Can I get these springs separate?

The slow engagement ~could~ be helped with a PCM reflash to the most current revision. See the dealer.

Not sure about the "rapping", could it be the A/C compressor? Try turning the hvac system off next time you hear it. Mine ticks, but not as loudly as yours is described to be...

I'm not sure about the pad springs... Your best bet would probably be the parts department at the dealership...

Thanks for the reply!

1. I'm gonna bring it to the dealer and see if it works.

2. I know its not the compressor because it still does it with the hvac system off. When the solenoid goes bad does it make an audible noise? The tranny has 90k onit and the noise just got progressively worse over the years.

3. To get those springs I had to go to the dealer yesterday. They don't sell the hardware kits separate so you have to buy new pads and the hardware kit together. Kinda stinks it cost $100, but there is no noises anymore.

While I was doing the brakes last night I grabbed the sway bar and you could hear a banging when I pushed it back and forth. I think I need new bushings. Is it a very involved project? Are there any snags from doing it in my garage?

Brake Pads: What you are looking for are actually brake pads that come with clips. The same thing happend to me. I made the mistake of throwing the old clips away. I bought some cheap pads from O'reillys that did not come with the clips and my front end rattled like crazy. I took them back and got the Wagner Therma-Quiets that came with the complete assembly. Problem solved!!!

It's been done, but I understand that one of the bolts is a REAL bugger to get. My original bushings are still holding on, but it's only a matter of time...105,000 miles and counting.

Thanks fort all the help...I just researced some past posts and it looks like the coolant bracket is in the way so its kind of a pain. One way or another I'm gonna replace those things.
